5 Tips on How To Be More Confident at Your Job

Successful people know that the key to their success is a healthy dose of confidence.

And while this may sound like a simple tell-tale, it’s actually backed up by science.

In fact, the research at Stanford University found that feeling confident can make you smarter and more creative!

The same study also found that people who were told they did well on an intellectual task would perform better on other tasks because they believed in themselves more.

In light of these findings, read on for a few tips to boost your confidence at work.

1. Listen to music.

Music is scientifically proven to increase confidence and creativity.

In fact, in a study of employees at a construction company, researchers found that listening to “positive” music actually improved productivity and reduced absenteeism at work by nearly 10 per cent.

In a study conducted with college students, listening to music before studying helped them learn more effectively and boost their self-esteem.

Best of all, when you listen to your favourite tracks on the way to work, your confidence is boosted automatically because music makes you feel good.

2. Put on your favourite cologne or perfume

According to a study conducted at the Smell and Taste Treatment and Research Foundation in Chicago, women are more attracted to men who wear cologne and perfume.

Citing the psychology behind why this is, some scientists argue that the scent of cologne helps people feel more comfortable around others, thus boosting their confidence.

What’s more, when you show up to work every day smelling like your favourite cologne or perfume, you’ll feel better about yourself. Not only will you be confident – every person who comes within range of your scent will be too!

3. Meditate your stress away

Stress is a bane to anyone looking to build confidence. When you’re stressed, your confidence will plummet.

Fortunately, meditation has been shown in numerous studies to reduce stress and boost self-esteem.

What’s more, practising meditation can help you feel less anxious about the future, which will help you feel more confident in your ability to handle whatever comes your way – both at work and in life.

If you really want to bring down the stress level at work, try listening to some soothing music while meditating for even better results.

“Just the term “Self-Confidence” creates a surge of anxiety. To be self-confident is anything but being focused entirely on yourself. For Self-Confidence to be rooted within a person it must first be a connection outside of self. Namely, “Self-Spirit” is a connection to a belief higher than yourself. Whether one calls it Universe, Spirit or God this is about being connected to something that aligns us in our truth. Second, Self-Connection with others. We become more comfortable with ourselves when supported by others that build us up. When a person unites the spirit and positive connections with others this is where one lives as Self-Confident. The gift of Self-Confidence is knowing you are being guided and loved each step to living with less judgement and increased freedom.” - Brian G. Bachand, Founder at Evolution Evolution

4. Sometimes, a positive attitude is all it takes to boost your confidence

If you’re having a bad day at work and you feel like no one has your back, stop and think: “What can I do to make this better?”

Maybe you could ask the person who makes coffee at work what they like to drink.

Maybe you could introduce them to someone who will make their life easier, like the guy in Customer Service who always makes a point of chatting with his customers before they leave the store.

Or maybe you could just try smiling! That simple act of smiling can brighten up even the most stressful days at work.

5. Confidence comes from within, not from the outside

Remember, confidence is not the same as self-esteem.

You can have high self-esteem and still be very insecure in your work or life.

It takes time and years of exploring yourself and understand what are your strengths, value and talents.

The more inner work you do on yourself the better it becomes clearer what are your true values, strengths and eventually self-confidence.

Don’t worry if you’re not getting high praise at work – just focus on doing a good job, learning new skills, and being a trustworthy employee. Just by doing that, the admiration of others will follow.
